vascular compressions: turn of events pt 1

I had wondered if the doctor realized he called me on a Friday evening (3/15) and it was now in fact, the weekend. We left on a "the schedulers will call you tomorrow..."

Saturday came and went with no call. I worked in the morning and was thoroughly exhausted. I had tickets to take the kids to The Little Mermaid at the Mankato Playhouse. My friend's daughters were in the show and I could not miss it! Lots of coffee was consumed, along with a dash of determination. The show was delightful and they did a fantastic job.

Copious amounts of candy were consumed by the kids during the show. Twizzlers being the top pick!

We brought Allison with us since Ben stayed home with Otis. She had dance competition all day before this!

Hattie's debut! She was three different characters throughout the show!

Lola as Ariel! So proud of her!

Monday arrived and I managed to wait until almost noon before I called the clinic to ask about the venogram situation. She supplied that she sent the information to insurance for prior authorization. I had a feeling that was going to be the response. I then decided to call insurance to ask about rush authorizations. She gave me a number the clinic could call to do this. I called the clinic back to give her this information. I could tell she was a bit frustrated. I said,

"It seems some false promises were made..."

This seemed to ease the tension a bit. She explained that a manager has to provide a certain CPT code for something yet before she could submit... and that the doctor has good intentions but sometimes all the pieces don't align. (So it hadn't actually been sent to insurance yet.) I hung up and decided what's done is done, if by some miracle it's supposed to happen, it will.

In just a few hours I would come to realize that it definitely was not meant to happen. And the venogram became the absolute last thing on my mind. Daycare called before 4 letting me know that Otis had a fever. Ben picked him up and there was a flurry of running to get Theodore to soccer, both kids to school conferences, a Target pickup order, a stop at Buffalo Wild Wings to support the school fundraiser, and finally back home again. This took both of us driving around and lots of coordination. While Ben and the kids were at Buffalo Wild Wings Otis woke up from his slumber coughing and crying. This cough came out of nowhere just before I got him to bed. He was incredibly restless and uncomfortable. So we rocked and I tried to get him calm. Around 10:30 I decided to go to bed and sleep a bit, so I could then switch with Ben again in a few hours. Ben is much better at sleeping in the recliner with him. We all managed to sleep for a little bit. At 12:30 Otis was fully awake again coughing nonstop and crying. I sent Ben to bed and took Otis. After sitting in the chair for about a minute listening to his breathing I decided I needed to take him to the ER. I'd been here before and I knew where it was going...

  1. Something tells me to disregard the date of this post as the day it is famous for. Prayers that Otis has what he needs in the way of meds to overcome this nasty stuff. Prayers for his dedicated parents who tag team to get through the day. Prayers that your doctors and insurance provider can get it together to help move this along toward progress. Prayers....just prayers....
